Sarah J Maas has captured me again with Nesta and Cassian’s story in A Court of Silver Flames. Even thought I didn’t want to be captured really hahah

If you somehow have no idea what this series belongs too, let me do a quick rundown and summary.

The Book Series Background

A Court of Silver Flames is book 4 in the A Court of Thorns and Roses Series. However, it’s more of a spin off starting this book AND this book is categorized as Adult, as opposed to the original trilogy which was YA

A Court of Thorns and Roses Series:
Young Adult, Fantasy, and First 3 books

  1. A Court of Thorns and Roses
  2. A Court of Mist and Fury
  3. A Court of Wings and Ruin

THEN 3.1 NovellaA Court of Frost and Starlight

SPIN OFF SERIES:
Adult, Romance, Fantasy – emphasis on the romance

  1. A Court of Silver Flames
  2. TBD
  3. TBD

There is also another novella coming out this April, but we’re not sure where it falls yet. We also don’t know if it’s more young adult or adult

If you have not read the original trilogy, there may be some spoilers in my review, just as this is a spin off based on events from the first 3 books. LOOK AWAY IF YOU DO NOT WANT MILD SPOILS

The Review

I loved the world. Even from the first three books, the world is stunning and gorgeous. Sarah J Maas does no less in this adventure. More importantly, We explore old places with new angles and deep dive into the origin of things. I love learning more and more of the history. For world and environment alone, I love this book. I want to say that I also love ‘the house’…. I’m being vague on purpose, but it’s one of my favorite aspects of this novel.

Sarah J Maas also gives us some new characters! Gwyn and Emerie are new and AH-mazing and also, make Nesta more bearable for me. I will say I don’t hate Nesta, but she’s not a nice person. From the first 3 books you can tell how much she hates the world, her family, and really herself. We go full throttle into all of that and all I have to say is…. Cassian is a saint and deserves a spa day. Honestly, that was my feeling throughout most of the book. That Cassian is enduring a lot. Also, Nesta’s self hatred can be a bit much.

THAT BEING SAID, the book is gripping and a wonderful story. I read it back to back and up late most nights to finish it. It’s enjoyable but I would say it doesn’t have the same ‘epic impact’ as the original trilogy. It’s a bit lighter.

WARNING: This book IS ADULT!

Why do I say this. I say this because it is chock full of sexy, steamy scenes. I’m not sure how to say this but… this is a horny book. Hahaha I wish I had a better way to sum it up. There is more sex in this novel than most standard romances you’ll read and SIGNIFICANTLY more than you expect after the original trilogy.

However, the sexy scenes have a solid place in the character growth. While…abundant, they make sense with the plot and setting. For me, it was just more shocking than expected. I also wanted more plot movement and sometimes all I got was more sexy. (Not a bad consolation prize but I did want a tad more haha)

Sarah J Maas has GREATLY improved her writing. I was reading this book really impressed after my attempts with Crescent City. The pacing in this book was excellent and as mentioned before, I couldn’t put it down.

Overall, I recommend A Court of Silver Flames to anyone that enjoyed the first series. Anyone that enjoys romance (heavily) and fantasy. I also recommend it to those that like dynamic worlds and solid world development.

Last note, I’m also #TeamAzriel and desperately need him to have a book soon. Or next. If at all possible. If you’re feeling sassy, drop your Team below in a comment and we can argue. LOL

Overall Rating: 4 Stars
Plot: 5 stars
Character Development: 3.5 (I KNOW, don’t hate me
Dialogue: 4
Writing: 4.5

Happy Reading!!
